LG has announced Korean availability for its new premium notebook that squeezes a 12.5-inch widescreen display into the kind of notebook body size normally reserved for 11.6-inch screens. The IPS display is also said to cater for multiple viewers at different viewing angles within a 178 degree arc, without loss of definition or color. The P220's sharing capabilities continue into wireless territory thanks to included content sharing software that allows users to let other DNLA-compliant devices get in on the video, music or photo action.
Sporting Macbook-like-block-looks, the LG P220 Windows 7 notebook is said to continue in the minimalist footsteps of its iF Design award-winning predecessor, the P210. Its 12.5-inch, 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, LED-backlit LCD display is surrounded on three sides by a 9.5 mm Real Slim Bezel, allowing it to slip into a much smaller notebook chassis than other notebooks in its class.
The LG P220 is powered by a second-generation Intel Core i5 2467M processor running at 1.6 GHz (up to 2.1 GHz with Turbo Boost) supported by up to 4GB DDR3 memory. It comes with Intel HD Graphics 3000 (shared), an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam and a 320GB single-platter HDD spinning at 5400 RPM.
Unfortunately LG hasn't given its clean and modern new notebook USB 3.0 physical connectivity, so users will have to make do with Hi-Speed ports only, but there is HDMI and a 4-in-1 media card reader. Wireless capability fairs a bit better, with Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.
The 11.7 x 7.6 x 0.8-inch (297.6 x 193.4 x 20.9 mm), 2.86 pound (1.3 kg) LG Xnote P220 notebook comes supplied with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition and is available in Korea this month in white, pink and blue for KRW 1,740,000 (US$1,612). A European release is to follow shortly, but there's no word on whether it will make its way Stateside.
