How to bring cheapest 4G tablet to India through Reliance and DataWind

The dust over the low-cost Aakash tablet has barely settled and Reliance is likely to be in talks with DataWind for the new cheapest 4G tablet. The company is planning to release a sub-3k GPRS enabled tablet in December, while a 4G tablet is also in the pipeline, which is expected to surface depending upon the launch of 4G services.

Cheapest 4G tablet on its way?

Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind revealed to Business Standard (Technology), “We have had preliminary talks with Reliance Industries. It is possible to embed a TD-LTE (long-term evolution) chipset in the tablet for 4G coverage. To begin, this December we’ll launch a GPRS-enabled tablet at an MRP of Rs 2,999 with some Indian operators. Once 4G services are launch we’ll have a product in that space too.

Though Reliance has refrained from commenting over it, the emerging era of low-cost tablets is something its competitors should look out for. However, it is also the quality of the tablet that users would look forward to. Apparently, the 4G tablet could carry a price tag somewhere between Rs. 4000 and Rs. 5000.
