How to Make Your IP Stay the Same

If you every used a program that required an IP address to use it (i.e VNC, and almost all other remote services) you probally know it is very annoying having to ipconfig your computer to get the IP.
Make Your IP Stay the Same
This is a way to keep your IP the same! And this is my first instructable so sorry if its to long or short! ;)

Step 1Searching for DNS, IP Addrees, Subnet Mask, and Gateway

Searching for DNS, IP Addrees, Subnet Mask, and Gateway
  • CMD 1.JPG

  • CMD 2.JPG

You may know it but it never hurts to double check!

go to Start > Run > CMD > Ok

now type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes (" ")

find the IP address, Subnet Mask, Defult Gateway, and the DNS Server (most people have 1 but there can be more).KEEP THIS OPEN!!!

Step 2Properties

Properties
Now for the work!!

Open Network Connections (Start > Control Panel > Network Connections)

Now find the connection that conects you to the internet (there are usually 2 one is the wireless the other is the cabled connection)!

Right click it and click Properties

Now find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties (the one under the box)

Step 3Setting Your IP

Setting Your IP
Now Un-bubble "Obtain an IP address automaticlly" and "Obtain an DNS Server address automaticlly"

Now here is where step 1 comes in!!! In the IP Address box you can set your IP BUT YOU CAN NOT USE ONE THAT ENDS IN 1!!!! Also you can't go to high but you also don't want to go to low so 7-10 usually is good unless alot of people are on your network!!!!

Click in the Subnet Mask! It usually changes by itself but if not fill that in from the YOUR cmd in step 1!!

Fill in the Defult Gateway According to your cmd also!!

Now in the Perferred DNS Server box Fill in the DNS Server from step 1 (yours of course)!!!!

And if you had 2 use both of them!!!

Click Ok. Click Ok again. Close all Internet services (Reboot is easiest way) to doubble check and make sure it worked! If it didn't work just recheck the "Obtain an IP address automaticlly" and "Obtain an DNS Server address automaticlly" bubbles!

Step 4And Thats It

And Thats It
