Facebook Acquired Instagram for $1 Billion

Facebook has already the crown of No.1 social networking website on the Internet and it has adapting with changing times to further consolidate its position. First, Facebook has integrated Angry Birds and now Mark Zukerberg has acquired Instagram and its thirteen employees at the purchase price of $1 Billion in cash and Facebook shares.  However, around 20 percent of Instagram users connect to Facebook through the mobile sharing app each month but it wasn’t enough for Facebook. Facebook wants to work independently with Instagram to allow its users to share their photos and videos with some additional features.
Instagram is a free photo sharing application which was first introduced in Apple iPhone on October 2010. Instagram app allows its users to take photos and share them with friends, family etc on various social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter with high resolution. It also applies digital filters on each photo to give it ravishing look. It restricts photos in square shape in 4:3 aspect ratio which is typically used in mobile phones. Instagram was also named iPhone App of the year in 2011. By noticing the craziness of this app among iPhone users, Instagram has also launched its android version earlier this month and it got a million of downloads in 12 hours. Instagram has got 30 million iPhone users in 18 months. If you still doesn’t have this app in your phone then you can download it from iTunes App Store and Google Play.

On purchase of Instagram Mark Zukerberg CEO of Facebook has said:-
This is an important milestone for Facebook because it’s the first time we’ve ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don’t plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.
Now Instagram’s mobile phone users will be able to view there Facebook photos in bigger sizes with an option to tag a friend. Mark Zukerberg has also mentioned, As instagram is now going to part of Facebook this doesn’t mean all its 30 million users will be forced to share their photos and videos only on Facebook. They can share photos and videos of any other Social Networking website. Facebook will only provide some extra features to users that other cannot do.
Acquisition of Instagram by Facebook has also forced its rivals Twitter and Google+ to add such new features in their social network.
